Client: Rolls-Royce Marine Power Operations Limited
Project: Demolition and Office Refurbishments, Raynesway, Derby.
Value: £1.5m.

A 10 month contract to demolish two 4 storey office blocks, carry out service diversions and office refurbishments at the Rolls-Royce nuclear facility at Raynesway, Derby.

The existing buildings were fully occupied at all times during works with appropriate measures and precautions taken to ensure minimal disruption to Rolls Royce's operations which remained uninterrupted for the course of the project.

Vibration sensors were placed around the site, to allow continuous monitoring, and the works were carefully sequenced and tasks undertaken outside of normal office hours to ensure the staff were unaffected by the works.

To facilitate the demolition, major works were undertaken in diverting critical electrical and telecommunication services from the redundant buildings to alternative accommodation on the Raynesway site. An extensive new underground ducting system was installed to accommodate these diversions.

Other external works included the installation of high security fencing, car parking and the diversion or termination of other services including drainage, water and gas.

The contract also included the total strip-out and refurbishment of office accommodation within further buildings on the site, critical to the sequence of works to allow re-siting of Rolls Royce personnel.
